Why “Asclepius”?

Our approach to the effective chronic pain treatment integrates ancient wisdom with modern medicine. Asclepius is the Greek god of medicine and healing. He represents the healing aspect of the medical arts; his daughters are Hygieia (“Hygiene”), Iaso (“Medicine”), Aceso (“Healing”), Aglaea/Aegle (“Healthy Glow”), and Panacea (“Universal Remedy”). The rod of Asclepius, a snake-entwined staff, remains a symbol of medicine today, although sometimes the caduceus, or staff with two snakes, is mistakenly used instead. Asclepius was a mortal son of Apollo. He shared  the epithet Paean (“the Healer”) with Apollo. The original Hippocratic oath began with the invocation “I swear by Apollo the physician and by Asclepius and by Hygieia and Panacea and by all the gods…” Temples of healing, known as Asclepieions were common in the Third Century, B.C. These Asclepieions promoted healing of the body, mind and spirit. Today, the Asclepius team continues the tradition by practicing integrative pain management.
