Treatment Options
One treatment program is not right for everyone; every person experiences pain differently. Each program is personalized to individual needs. Asclepius’ motto Experience Pain Differently® offers alternatives to the typical pain management approach, which is often heavily dependent on medication and aggressive surgical procedures. Our programs include cognitive behavioral classes, functional conditioning and therapies, in conjunction with medication and interventional procedures when indicated.
The Complexity Of One® Programs
Because each individual is unique; we believe the Complexity of One® is essential in the development of an effective personalized pain treatment program. Asclepius provides different programs to address the specific needs of each patient; each program is further customized to meet each patient’s unique needs. The Complexity of One® programs model emphasize motivational interviewing and neuroplasticity concepts; the malfunctioning or diseased nervous system is changed by creating new, healthy neural pathways and networks.
The programs build on a foundation of good nutrition, exercise, meditation, stress reduction, restful sleep and joyful living. We emphasize daily practice to achieve and sustain success.
Functional Restoration Program
Asclepius’ Functional Restoration Program (FRP) is designed for workers’ compensation patients. This program (6 months, 160 hours) differs from the common functional restoration program by shortening daily participation from eight to two hours, extending the program duration from one to six months, and by keeping the patient involved in the same group of up to eight patients. Typically, the FRP has three integrated components:
- Functional Conditioning Sessions: A physical conditioning program that addresses muscular strength, flexibility, postural awareness, and body mechanics.
- Cognitive Behavioral Sessions: Focus on behavioral psychosocial issues that must be addressed by patients to understand and decrease their pain, make healthy decisions, and overcome obstacles to improvement.
- Nutrition and Healthy Living Classes: Utilize anti-inflammatory eating principles to educate patients on pain reduction through whole foods. Cooking classes and one-on-one consultations guide the patient to develop a lifetime of healthy eating.
The Pain Management Institute
The Pain Management Institute (10 weeks, 90-minute sessions) helps patients start the transition from passive recipients of the traditional biomedical-model to active directors of their own care. The program emphasizes pain reduction through cognitive behavioral therapy and proper body mechanics. Cognitive behavioral therapy changes the patient’s mindset, providing improved functionality and enhanced attitude, even when pain reduction is limited.
